What is an EDI 853?
The EDI 853 Routing and Carrier Instruction provides the sender with the capability to transmit detailed routing and carrier information pertinent to a route.
How to use an EDI 853?
An EDI 853 Routing and Carrier Instruction only provides routing information and does not convey information about a shipping event or provide shipping authorization. After the EDI 853 Routing and Carrier Instruction is received, an EDI 997 Functional Acknowledgment is sent back from the receiver indicating that the EDI 853 Routing and Carrier Instruction was successfully received.
